About the Role

AMF is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven leader to lead in honing the vision of the foundation, as well as driving its growth and the promotion of GLIC and blended finance initiatives for Africa and beyond. This senior hire will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with the core team, and on contract with the US entity. The Executive Director will report to the AlphaMundi Foundation board and be expected to take over the day-to-day management of the Foundation’s work and programs, as well as be a thought leader, partnership developer and strong fundraiser.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Leadership and Partnerships. Lead in fostering new and existing investor and capacity builder partnerships and proposals for new programs. Lead in honing the mission, vision, and program portfolio of the foundation. Liaise with existing partners such as AlphaMundi Group to identify areas for collaboration that unlock catalytic funding for future investable African SMEs in agriculture, food, climate, and other critical sectors that create jobs and better livelihoods. Attend conferences and speak on behalf of the foundation.

• Fundraising and Future Programs. Lead in fundraising efforts to secure programmatic or other funding to grow the organization’s activities.

• Management. Day-to-day oversight of the AMF team (currently 3 others). Budget oversight, approvals and sign off in coordination with the Operations & Finance Director. Mentorship and growth support for the AMF team.

• Donor Compliance and Contracts Management. Senior oversight of contracts and compliance of AlphaMundi Foundation and its subcontractors' compliance with donor requirements related to financial and program reporting, document retention, audit preparation and expenditures.

• Donor Management and Reporting. Develop content, assemble inputs for and submit high quality annual and semi-annual donor required reports.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

• Passion for the field of impact investing and the mission of the Foundation

• Strong aptitude for project management, financial management, leadership especially as it pertains to non-profit organizations

• Strong interpersonal skills with a good aptitude for pro-active communication and transparency, patience, and perseverance

• Entrepreneurial team player who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and seek innovative solutions

• 10+ years of experience incl. 5+ years operating in and managing teams and programs in Africa

• Grant writing and/or similar fundraising experience

• Blended finance or impact investing transaction experience and strong networks with the impact investing and commercial investments sector

• Demonstrated ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment with an international team and frequent virtual meetings

• Willingness to travel regionally and abroad as needed (estimated 30%+) to represent the foundation at conferences, field visits and partnership trips

The ideal candidate will also have the following experience:

• Grant Writing for business and impact capacity building, technical assistance, blended finance, SIINCs, concessionary loans and similar

• Experience with donor relationships building, specifically related to supporting and securing $1M+ development or similar contracts in the areas specified above

• MBA or Master’s degree in a relevant field

• Prior experience supervising or implementing technical assistance and/or blended finance projects for social enterprises in emerging markets, especially in East Africa and Latin America – and in a business related context
